Ducati’s first 4 valve Desmodromic twin (desmo quattro) was the World Superbike Champion. Their Desmodromic valve system, where the cam both pushes the valve open and also pulls it shut, became their trademark. Other manufacturers think it is just hype, especially with 4 valve cylinders which have small, light valves. Ducati had the superbike rules changed so that 2 cylinder bikes (theirs) could be 1000cc and the 4 cylinder bikes (Japanese) only 750cc. The champion this year was a new Honda twin, 1000cc. If you can’t beat them, join them.
