The MV 500 triple (3 cylinders) is the bike that stopped Honda from winning a 500cc championship before they quit in 1968. The triple was first designed as a 350 to try to beat Honda, who was then dominating that class.
First out in 1965, the 350 triple was faster than MV’s old 500 four (but not faster than the new Honda 350 six), which was still winning (No Honda 500’s yet). The bike was gradually increased in size to 380, 420, 470 and then to 500cc. This bike is part of that development and is either a 420 or 470 (probably 420). When the triple got to 500cc, this bike was obsolete and "slipped" out of the factory. The MV triple went on to win more world championships than probably any other design. |
